M.Phil. in Applied Linguistics

DELL’s M.Phil. program in Applied Linguistics aims to investigate a wide range of issues around language in contemporary society. Among these, the most prominent issues include second and foreign language education. Current research centers around bilingualism and multilingualism, child language development, second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, cross-cultural pragmatics, discourse and conversation analysis, inter-cultural communication, language teaching, and translation theory. The program comprises taught courses of 24 credit hours. Upon the completion of courses, only students obtaining a GPA of 2.50 or above may write a research dissertation (6 credit hours). In lieu of research dissertation, two additional courses (3 credit hours each) will be offered to the students who fail achieving the required GPA.

  • 16 years of education
  • Minimum 2.5 CGPA (semester system)/ minimum second division (annual system)

 Career Opportunities

As per HEC’s regulations, M.Phil. is now a basic requirement for lectureship at universities in Pakistan. It is a gateway to research enabling students to pursue a Ph.D. in their selected areas of interest. M.Phil. graduates are also taken up by research firms for assistance in research projects.
